There are some very special markets which take place regularly around the city just waiting for you to find them. Cork confidently lays claim to have the top open air markets during special occasions such as St Patrick’s day, Christmas holidays, Easter holidays and many other seasonal holidays.
Visit the many unique stalls set up on grand parade selling some of the finest products in the country for very good prices. The only difficult thing is deciding which food or drink produces to pick from!
When in Cork you simply have to try the city's indigenous 'stouts' - a thick black beer with a a white head that is hugely popular all over Ireland. While Guinness is available in many pubs in the city, the older and newer locally brewed stouts are more popular. Beamish and Murphy's stouts both have interesting histories running back hundreds of years and are now brewed by Heineken Ireland on Leitrim Street in the city.
The popularity of craft beers in the city and county in more recent times has also seen the emergence of Shandon Stout and most recently Mi Daza brewed by smaller independent brewing companies. 'Mi Daza' is Cork slang derived from the Irish language meaning 'very nice' or lovely' (e.g. "your new car is mi daza boy!"). Check out the links below for more info:
